SIR GAWAIN and the GREEN KNIGHT In the Middle Ages, a time of brave knights and fair maidens, chivalry was alive and well, and honor meant much more than just pride. A man could be expected to be as good as his word, and God was an integral part of his life. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the title character sets off on a month-long quest for the Green Chapel in fulfillment of a promise made a year earlier, knowing full well that it could mean certain death. After the knight's final days at the court of King Arthur are recounted, he sets off in "country wild" where he is "far off from all his friends" (lines 713-14). This lonely road on which he rides reflects the nature of his quest--Gawain's conflict is within himself, and is something which he must deal with on his own. On the long, arduous journey, the brave knight battles countless foes to the point where "to tell but the tenth part would tax [the author's] wits" (719). All manner of fearsome foes are described, from serpents and wolves to wild men and giants. However, he has "borne himself bravely, and been on God's side" (724), and therefore makes it through all these trials intact. The description of the locations where Sir Gawain is forced to sleep on some nights calls to mind the dwelling of Grendel's mother from Beowulf--cold, gloomy, rocky, and generally unpleasant. Gawain bears it all with stoic patience and fortitude, though he is "near slain" by the inclement weather. Finally, on Christmas Eve, Gawain "prays with all his might/That Mary may be his guide/Till a dwelling comes in sight" (737-39). This prayer underlines the parallel between Gawain's plight on this Christmas Eve and Mary's own search for lodging on the night of the first Christmas. On Christmas morning, he arrives in a foreboding forested area, "a man all alone" in a "marsh and mire" where "birds unblithe upon bare twigs/Peeped most piteously for pain of the cold." (The cold loneliness stands in contrast to the warmth and companionship he is to find in Bercilak's castle later on in the story.) Here he again prays mournfully--this time that he may be able to attend the Christmas mass. His first thoughts are not for his own safety, nor for his reputation should he not find the Green Chapel in time.

This is certainly the same with the situation that is dealt with by each individual that is considerably facing difficult problems and challenges as persons making up the society today.As for the case of the author of this paper, it could be observed that she has been able to wake up from a dark situation that challenged her ability to withstand the dangers and the hardships of being ill. Although she had been facing such problems with her health, she has been noted to actually understand that she should and must be able to continue her personal development even with so much challenges that she has to face because of her case.Because of this, it is undeniable that she was able to stand up again and become the kind of p erson she wants herself to be, a fighter. She chose to continue her studies amidst all the odds that faced her along the way to at least develop her own skills and make definite changes as to the way that she lives her life beyond all the challenges that she is supposed to deal with.Through this account of actual life experience, it could be noted that challenges are supposed to be faced as major probabilities of changes among human individuals. IT is through these challenges and difficulties that the human society tries to make a difference upon their lives. It is through this particular factor of life that each individual is able to become a stronger person who is able to face the different challenges in his own journey.People who are able to stand up again after a failure that may or may not be inflicted by their ownselves, are those whoa re able to make huge changes in the lives of many people, through inspiring them to fight for their right to a fine way of living and through b ecoming the pillars of truth that attests to the fact that standing up and not giving up is a major part of living a successful way of life.One’s real purpose in living could be identified to the ways by which he is particularly able to face the different challenges that he is naturally faced with in his own journey towards personal development and social connection as well.

Cold Inferno by Disarmonia Mundi free essay sample

Disarmonia Mundi is an Italian based melodic death metal band that is heavily influenced by the early Gothenburg scene with bands like At The Gates, Carcass and In Flames. With this in mind, I would personally recommend this to anyone who is a fan of that scene and any band like this. Its been six whole years since their last album, The Isolation Game, and it must feel great to be back. Cold Inferno has some features that the other albums before this didnt really have too much of. From what Im concerned with, no album prior to this have ever sounded quite as epic in sound quality nor have had any song longer than five minutes. With this album, we even get a seven minute long track which is track five(Im too lazy too look it up). Other than that, its mostly same old same old from here and frankly, while it is fun to thrash your head to, the lack of innovation and overall complexity seems boring after a while. This album also boasts a shorter album length than its predecessors being only 45 minutes total, not long at all to be perfectly honest. At least if you do get bored, it wont be for long. The highlights for me is the seven minute track Ive mentioned, at least it is a but more melodic and, dare I say, a but more progressive in style than some of the other tracks. I otherwise find everything to bemore of the same to be honest. Though if,you want to find Neo-Gothenburg bands, I suggest you start here. I find this similar in style to All That Remains The Order of Things from much earlier this year where everything sounds mostly the same except for the long track or tracks. Just a slight comparison. If you compress this to something like Mind Tricks or The Isolation Game, this is far inferior in comparison. Without it, it is pretty solid regardless of its unoriginality. I give this an 8.5/10. It is just as brutal, if not, more brutal than their other works, but suffer s from lack of originally. I am the Grim Reaper, signing off.
